the 3rd Saturday gets my vote. I can echo what someone else said above - we had people drive from as far as 5.5 hours away for our event, and others drove from hours away as well. if the event had been on a Sunday, they all would not have participated. something to consider there.

I can understand arguments for both keeping it on the 22nd and using the third Saturday but think I'm just edging towards the former- I reckon it's because I think of music festivals as being held on the same weekend every year, whereas annual celebrations such as World Book Day, International Women's Day and so on tend to be on a fixed date.
I'd like to think that those people organising events would be able to cope with WGD being on, say, a Tuesday, and have their club night on the nearest Saturday to the date, still under the banner of WGD- a midweek date could also theoretically lead to a whole week of stuff going on rather than just a day, with weekends at either end of the week being used for events. It also occurs that if it falls on a weekday then there's more scope for charity fundraising in offices and so on.
Let's face it, this is all a bit academic- whichever way the vote goes I'm sure we'll all get drunk and have a blast again next year!

Actaully, even though I voted for 3rd Saturday I think deadstuffgrum has a point and the fixed date does work, after all, we don't move Halloween every year but clubs still hold special events for it close to the actual date..
tricky..

The 3rd Saturday seems to be the strongest opinion so far, and for many good reasons. I think we should keep this going for a few more weeks to properly canvas people's feelings on it and declare the result of it at the end of June...and stick to it.

If the 3rd Saturday in May is already taken up in the US and, anyway, that kind of pattern is most closely linked to clubs - just stick with 22 May. There is an international 'Talk like a pirate' day and it sticks to one date; having done so it grows slightly each year as the date stays in more peoples heads.

No decision as yet, I wanted to get a few more opinions. Might have to jolly up the public for a few more answers I think...

I don't understand why people keep saying the 3rd Saturday. May 22nd was actually the 4th Saturday in May. Our World Goth Day in San Francisco was very well attended and we are definitely interested in throwing another event in 2011. I vote to keep WGD on the 4th Saturday in May!

Has any decision been made on when the next World Goth Day will be? I really think it should be kept on May 22nd.

To be totally honest, me & Martin have been busy so it hasn't been discussed!
Votes seems to point to the 3rd Saturday of May, personally I agree about keeping the date as May 22nd. It's hardly going to prevent anyone making an event out of it when they could theoreticaly use the nearest weekend for it.

I think it should stay in the 22nd because usually when you have International (whatever) Day or World (whatever) Day it stays on a particular date, not the 3rd Saturday in May or something like that.

I vote for the 3rd Saturday of May!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not true on the International celebration days yes they don't move Christmas or Valentines around but Easter moves with the days in April. I think having it on a definite weekend is great and works best for me cause I have World Belly Dance Day on the second Saturday of May and then have World Goth Day the next weekend. If they were both on the same weekend it would have to be World Goth Belly Dance Day WHICH WOULD SUIT ME FUCKING FINE TOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
